West Ham United 2-2 Aston Villa

Aston Villa have missed out on fifth spot after being held 2-2 at West Ham and Everton’s victory.

West Ham started well when Nolberto Solano hit a free kick into the net after just 7 minutes.

Aston Villa equalised shortly after with Ashley Young hitting a neat side footed effort and after the break Villa captain Gareth Barry put the visitors ahead.

However Dean Ashton struck a superb late equaliser meaning Villa will qualify for the Intertoto Cup.

News of Everton’s third goal had filtered through to the Villa fans and players, and just as it looked like the game would be played out quietly, Ashton shot from just outside the area to earn his side a share of the points.
