Umbro Ultra SX Football Boots

The new Umbro football boots which we first told you about last month (Read the article here) are due for release in June, and the most eye-catching of these is the Umbro Ultra SX football boot.

Umbro Ultra SX Football Boots new

The Umbro Ultra SX comes in an all-black colourway in both FG, HG Metal and SG versions, with gold highlights. Technology always plays an important role in Umbro football boots, and this model is no exception with the use of Armourtex mesh with injected Michelin rubber producing an upper mesh which in turns leads to a lightweight football boot whilst maintaining strength, ventilation and power. The added Michelin technology improves grip, following on from Umbro’s earlier releases.

Umbro Ultra SX Football Boots - Technical Details

The new Ultra SX has been targeted for players for whom speed and power are the most important attributes, but as ever with modern football boots, the added attributes of protection and stability remain key factors. Umbro have incorporated metatarsal protection shock cushioning lining that is built into the tongue of the football boot that it hopes will provide maximum protection in the Ultra SX, together with the lightweight TPU and glass fibre heel counter.

Umbro Ultra SX Football Boots- sole

A lightweight anatomical insock made from PE and Poron provides ultimate shock absorption and prevents compression setting under extreme conditions.

The Ultra SX football boot also has a carbon fibre shank that helps correct foot movement and the titanium wishbone component of the outsole enhances this function further. The Ultra SX has a 13 stud moulded outsole with metal tips and Umbro are currently the only football boot manufacturer to produce an outsole of this kind. The Ultra SX is also available as a standard 6 stud screw in and traditional 13 stud moulded outsole options.

Price: £150

Release date: 13th June 2007

Players: Not yet known

Verdict: Umbro Ultra SX in a blackout colourway and mesh covering ticks all the boxes in terms of design and style, and with the backing of Umbro’s technological advances and innovation creates a quality football boot - we can’t wait to get our hands on a pair for testing!

I am 82 and have been following footy all my life. I am sure that the ankle and knee injuries so prevalent today are caused by the stud arrangements. It requires a single round stud at the front centre of the boot to allow the foot to pivot when the player is on his toes and turning. Beckham’s ankle strain the other night is a prime example.

i feel it is the game being quicker that is the problem behind this, causing late tackles. a central stud allowing the foot to pivot would just mean the main joints would be able to twist more resulting in more damage.
