Nothing should change in football. Inconsistancy in officials keeps things interesting. God forbid they turn the game into that hand-egg thing with reveiws and replay and whatever.

there should be a ref to watch cameras for entire game, and tell 1st ref if he needs to punish those whom he overlook, something like yellow card or red card after an advantage, maybe?

And I might add that the blow Srna was dealt by De Rossi the referee did not see. This seems to remind me of a similar World Cup Final incident in 2006 that the referee did not see, but I also remember that the ref in question simply looked up at the instant replay board and then sent the perpetrator home. If a replay was used at the very highest level, why cant it be used at all other levels?

It’s really infuriating the level of inconsistency that these football associations have. Why does a ref in one league give a foul when it’s not a foul in another league whens its all the same football? Why are some events penalised using video evidence and some events are not corrected using video evidence?

While the technology, equipment, tactics have all evolved, the way football is governed is still stuck in the ice age.

Great article I also complete with you as well! I live in the United States and the NFL has the authority to review incidents and punish appropiately as does the “major sports” in America, such as baseball and basketball as well as hockey so it makes perfect sense to do this as well in football/soccer as well! Rooneys elbow is just absolutely absurd! Okay yes, the referees may have missed it but that does not mean he should not be punished for his action! It’s 2011 there plenty of cameras for the FA to review the game and issue the punishment as they see necessary.

Great article, I completely agree with everything you said. Another note I would like to add is punishing players that don’t get punished during matches (i.e. De Rossi elbowing Srna during yesterdays Champions League match). I think they should have the power to fine and suspend players for actions such as those.
