Wayne Rooney thinks Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player to grace the Premier League.

Manchester United need to work a bit more to confirm the Premier League title after their draw at Blackburn, but Rooney also has eyes on the Champions League trophy.

BLACKBURN 1-1 MAN UTD

Manchester United face Barcelona in the semi finals of the Champions League and Rooney is eager to get a win against the Spanish heavyweights.

Despite Barca heralding a string of world class players, Rooney is confident the world’s best is in his side.

Wayne Rooney:

wayne rooney Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world and I’m sure it will be a fantastic game between two entertaining teams.

It is going to be one of the best semi-finals you could see, with some great attacking football. They have so many unbelievable players - Henry, Ronaldinho, Messi, Xavi, Eto’o - the list goes on.

Messi’s my favourite - for his age and the way he plays, he is brilliant. However, Rooney believes even Argentina star Messi plays second fiddle to United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, who the striker hailed as greatest player to grace English football since the Premier League began.

Man UtdHe has not just been the best player of the last two seasons, he’s the best player the Premier League has ever seen - and that’s including Thierry Henry, Gianfranco Zola, Eric Cantona, Dennis Bergkamp and Alan Shearer.

Best the premiership has ever seen? Not yet. Has the potential to be, hell if he carries on the way he is at the moment he could be the best ever in the world, but he’s only had 2 exceptional seasons, I don’t think he can be called the best the premiership has seen yet, look at the period of time Cantona, Bergkamp and Henry served in the Premiership. Rooney is just jumping the gun. Don’t support Man Utd, to be fair I hate them. But I can admire Ronaldo for the special player he is.. But he does look like a total, total fag.

hmm..i see what you’re saying..but i dont agree to it…Cantona. bergkamp and henry are great players and we all know that, and i wont be su[rised if ronaldo is added to that list…ronaldo has had two exceptional seasons where he has scored the most goals and i ont be suprised if he continues to do so in the next few seasons as well.. tell me something has cantona, henry and bergkamp always been in form?

I’m sure he will be added to that list, and I can’t say that the forementioned players have always been in form.. Look at Henry in his last season at Arsenal. It wasn’t his finest hour, similarily with Cantona’s at United. But when they were in their prime, they had seasons of brilliance consecutively! i.e. Henry being top scorer for ‘02, 04, 05 and 06. He may be able to continue his fine form, I’m sure he will, but I guess time will tell if he will be the best the premiership has ever seen. My point was simply that Rooney has jumped the gun in proclaiming him the best ever at such an early stage of his tenure in the premiership.. Who knows in a few years someone new will probably have come along and be setting the pitch alight. Needless to say, all this talent can only be good for the aesthetic of the game! I appreciate what you were saying though! :)
