South Korean Park Ji-sung scored the first goal after just eight minutes when Kieran Gibbs slipped in the box.

Cristiano Ronaldo added the second with a trademark free kick which out-foxed Almunia just three minutes later and took the wind out of the home sides fast passing game.

The determined talent of Ronaldo was demonstrated when he scored his second and United’s third on 61 minutes. Ronaldo finished off a sweeping counter attack which he started himself just outside the Arsenal penalty area, by Rooney’s well timed pass, Ronaldo beat Almunia as he ran onto Rooney’s ball inside the Arsenal penalty area.

The win will set up a meeting with Chelsea or Barcelona for the final in Rome. Chelsea play their second leg in London on Wednesday night following a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Barcelona.

Arsenal managed a consolation goal from the penalty spot 15 minutes from time after United midfielder Darren Fletcher was adjudged to have fouled Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas in the box and was subsequently sent from the field.

Robin van Persie scored from the kick, shooting high to the left of diving United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.
