There’s nothing like starting off a new year by revisiting a classic. So we were delighted to see this new colourway for the Puma King XL.

On general sale from today, the new red and white colourway is complimented by a full set of apparel, accessories and training wear (as modelled by Kevin Doyle below) that has been tested and perfected over the past four decades.
The football boots themselves, like previous versions, have the Roman numerals MCMLXVIII in the sole, signifying their inspiration, the Eusebio boot of 1968.

Apart from the Portuguese genius, other legends to have worn Puma down the years have included Pele, Maradona and John Cruyff. These days, they are worn by the likes of Michael Carrick of Manchester United (who has been appearing in the new colourway for a few weeks now) along with his team mate Nemanja Vidic who plays in the v-Konstrukt III.
Launching the new red and white colourway, Filip Trullson, Senior Business Unit Manager of Teamsport, Puma said:

No other brand has a football boot with as much history and tradition as the Puma King. It is a truly iconic shoe that has become a brand unto itself.
With raised bead line, toe overlay and lateral stability insert inspired by the Eusébio boot 40 years ago, the King XL is executed with today’s best production technology.
Super-soft, ultra-thin full-grain leather is complemented by a high-density silicon heel counter and conical firm ground stud construction for optimal stability and manoeuvrability.
The upper is embossed with a leaping cat logo on the vamp and King logo on the lateral side.
The Puma King XL red and white colourway will retail at £89.99
