Bob shirt you are talking about is the bionic X. It has a sponge like effect on the major sweat areas. And slowing evaporates the sweat so that you sweat less which allows you to use your energy more efficiently.

Have both the heat gear and cold gear from UnderArmour as base layers. They both work exactly as the company claims. The heat gear ( top and bottom ) is great compression and really does keep me cooler than just my jersey and shorts.

Bob brings up an interesting point about evaporation. The average temp that I play in is around 35 degrees Celsius (around 95 Fahrenheit) so the only baselayers I wear are shorts made from Skins which seem to work well. UnderArmour also have a “heat gear” range for “when it’s hot” so i’d be interested to know how that works out too

Actually, these do not help at all in the warm. These will hurt you in the warm. Moisture wicking fabric was never actually tested before it became a fad. To cool you down you need the moisture to evaporate off of your skin, not the clothing. This has been tested by….Bio Gear or Bio X or something that disigned a shirt that kept the sweat and vented the heat. You use 97% of your energy mainntaining temperature and with this shirt a tester was able to run for 30 minutes more in 100+ (I think 110) fahrenheit than in the adidas thing. Moisture wicking fabric is only good in the cold, on undies and socks.

@Lengy, the white “strapping” is either sock tape to keep the sock and shin pad in place, or when the white covers the whole bottom of the sock and ankle, it’s because it’s a blister sock. A lot of players (e.g. Ronaldo) cut the bottoms (the foot part) of their football socks off, put the top half of it on normally, put on a pair of blister socks, then tape it all together with sock tape.

Nike’s current line of baselayers have several other types including Pro-Core, Ultimate and the Hyper Cool. Think a test between the 3 can be reviewed?

Just a question could you do one about shin pads and why all players now are wearing white strapping etc round the ankles and legs? what is this? does it help support? or aid?
