FANS FAB ABOUT CAPELLO

Footy Boots visitors think Fabio Capello is the right man for England.

FANS FAB ABOUT CAPELLOAs Fabio Capello prepares England for their clash at Belarus, he will without doubt feel more at ease knowing that Footy Boots readers have backed him as the right man for the job as England Manager.

The poll conducted here on Footy Boots had the following results:

Is Fabio Capello the right man for England?

* Yes - 62%

* No - 38%

Poll run on Footy Boots during October 2008.

The results indicate that Footy Boots fans are no doubt impressed with Capello leading England to three wins out of three in their qualifying group for the World Cup 2010. And, should England get a win away to Belarus on Wednesday evening, it will be the first time an England team have ever won their opening four games of a World Cup qualifying group.

The confidence in Capello will be a breath of fresh air to the FA after they made the mistake in giving the job to Steve McClaren last time around.

FANS BACK FERGIE FOR TEAM GB

Sir Alex Ferguson has been voted the the man to manage a Great Britain football team in the 2012 Olympics.

Ferguson Team GBHeralded as the best manager of modern times, Manchester United’s Scottish manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been given the public vote to manage a Great Britain football team in the 2012 Olympics to be staged in London.

The poll conducted here on Footy Boots had the following results:

* Sir Alex Ferguson - 42%

* David Beckham - 36%

* Others - 22%

Whilst Ferguson pipped his former player David Beckham in the public vote, it’s still not clear whether there will even be a Team GB football team at the 2012 Olympics, as there is resistance from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to the idea of a collective side. The home nations fear that by entering a GB side, they may be in danger of losing their independence as a football nation, despite Sepp Blatter suggesting that will not happen.

Beckham team gbIn addition the public support, Ferguson is also being supported by English Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Lord Sebastian Coe.

Beckham, who hinted at his interest in the role as manager at the close of the Beijing Games has since ruled out a move into management.

David Beckham told FourFourTwo magazine:

fergie team gb I don’t want to be a manager. I’ll never be a manager.

FANS WANT CLUBS TO KEEP CHANGING FOOTBALL KITS

“Keep changing the kit”, that’s what football fans voted in our poll to find out how often fans would like football clubs to change their football kits.

football kits changingReplacing football kits annually topped the list with 43% of the votes ahead of a bi-annual change (41%).

The poll conducted here on Footy Boots had 1,000 votes with the following results:

  • Annually - 43%
  • Every 2 years - 41%
  • Every 3 years - 11%
  • More than 3 years - 5%

Poll conducted August 2008.

Of the 20 teams in the Premier League this season, just two teams will be keeping their home shirts from last year, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The trend for clubs to change their football kits regularly is well received by fans, despite protests suggesting that football clubs are taking advantage of their supporters.

Andy Kay Footy Boots editor:

football kits change Football clubs have been taking a bit of stick for releasing football shirts so frequently, so we wanted to see what our vistors had to say. It’s pretty clear that they appreciate new merchandise being released regularly.

RENE HIGUITA DELIGHTED WITH VICTORY

Rene Higuita is delighted to have had his “Scorpion Trick” voted the Best Football Trick Ever. Footy Boots caught up with the Colombian goalkeeper….

rene higuitaRene Higuita topped our sensational poll earlier this week, HIGUITA’S SCORPION KICK VOTED THE BEST EVER FOOTBALL TRICK.

The result has seen the former Colombian goalkeeper reclaim celebrity status, with global newspaper coverage and features on Colombian TV news shows.

We thought it was only right to congratulate Rene officially, so we sent our South Amercian correspondent Felipe Bazon on a trip to Colombia, where 41 year old Higuita is in training with his club Deportivo Pedreira.

Footy Boots - Rene, congratulations, you have been voted no 1 in the poll of the best football tricks ever, how do you feel?

Rene Higuita - Well I was very surprised when I heard the news. I was actually eating breakfast when I heard, but of course I was very happy to hear this.

I am so happy with this award, in fact delighted that this trick has beaten other great tricks performed by other football legends.

Footy Boots - The poll was conducted on an English speaking site, did you know you had so many fans outside of South America?

Rene Higuita - No I didn’t but it’s great to know that my trick has been recognised worldwide.

Now I can die in peace knowing that my trick will be remembered by my sons, grandsons and many generations to come as the best football trick ever.

When you love the game so much and play with your heart things like this are likely to happen and I am delighted to be recognised for that.

Footy Boots - How did you originally come up with the Scorpion Trick?

The Scorpion was created five years before I performed the trick at Wembley.

I was shooting a Colombian soft drink TV commercial with some kids. One of the kids chipped the ball over me and I reacted with the Scorpion move. Luckily they were recording at the time and the Scorpion Trick ended up on the commercial.

Five years later, and after the Scorpion had been on the commercial time and again, I’d get loads of requests from fans and people around the world asking me to perform the Scorpion, so I decided to do the Scorpion live to the world.

Footy Boots -  Rene, it was a pleasure talking to you, do you have a final message?

Rene Higuita - Yes, I’d like to dedicate this victory to my family and all the Colombians. Thanks to all the Footy Boots readers that voted and the ones that didn’t. God bless all Footy Boots readers.

Rene Higuita was interviewed live on Colombian TV Channel Caracol,here’s the video.

Poll Results: Do football boots contribute to foot injuries?

The results are in for the Footy Boots poll on whether modern football boots contribute to football players’ foot injuries.

Following Wayne Rooney’s (Nike Total 90 Laser) foot fracture, Joey Barton (Nike Total 90 Laser) metatarsals, and Stevie G (Adidas Predator Absolute) and his broken toe, we asked you the question :

Do you think modern football boots contribute to foot injuries?

With voting now closed, a very tight result saw 53% of Footy-Boots voters being of the opinion that modern football boots do not contribute to foot injuries, and 47% believing that modern football boots are one of the causes of the recent spate of foot injuries.

It seems that Footy-Boots visitors are not the only football boot experts that are agreeing to disagree.

Football boots contribute to foot injuries - the experts opinion.

football boots injuries

Of the opinion that modern football boots contribute to foot injuries, is ex Liverpool winger Craig Johnston, who created the Adidas Predator. Johnston believes that it is only a matter of time before a player gets so badly injured that he sues a major football boot brand.

Carlisle United’s physio, Neil Dalton, was on the sidelines watching his team take on Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly, when Joey Barton suffered his metatarsal fracture whilst wearing his bladed Nike Total 90 Lasers. Dalton believes that modern football boots don’t have enough protection, which is possibly why we’re seeing more of this kind of injury.

Sir Alex Ferguson is such a critic of the new type of lightweight bladed football boots that he has banned his players from wearing them.

Football boots don’t contribute to foot injuries - the experts opinion.

Needless to say, the major football boot brands are of the opinion that football boots are not the cause of the recent spate of foot injuries.

Charlie Brooks, Head of Corporate Communications for Nike, has gone on record saying both Nike and Wayne Rooney are absolutely confident that the Nike Total 90 Laser had nothing to do with the England striker’s injury. He went on to remark that one-fifth of Premiership players were wearing the Nike Total 90 Laser on the first weekend of the Premiership season, a pretty impressive market share for the Nike football boot brand.

Wayne Rooney himself had extensive input into the design of the Total 90 Laser , as well as being part of the development testing process.

It does seem as shown in the Footy Boots poll, that those who know their Footy Boots, will always find foot injuries / metatarsals a contentious discussion point.

Best Brand of Football Boots - Adidas

Adidas have been crowned the best brand of football boots according to the readers of this blog.

Best Brand of Football BootsThe poll that has been running for the last month, here on Footy Boots, showed a massive 47% of voters chose Adidas as their favoured brand of football boots, which will no doubt please the German sporting goods company.

The poll results had American company Nike in second place with a third of the voters, followed by Puma with less than 10% of votes.

So based on these figures, almost 5 out of 10 football players think Adidas and 8 out of 10 think Adidas or Nike when considering their brand of football boots.
