NIKE TOTAL 90 LASER II: SILVER / RED / BLACK

When you’ve got a cast list that includes Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Fernando Torres and Michael Essien, it’s pretty clear that you must be doing something right.

That’s most certainly the case for the Nike Total 90 Laser II designers who  have now come up with a new version of the boot, a limited edition in a Silver / Red / Black colourway.

The boot will be on sale on 1st October and will cost around £120.

NIKE TOTAL 90 LASER II: SILVER / RED / BLACK

Nike Total 90 Laser II Tech Spec

Integrated offset lacing system provides increased boot to ball contact surface, minimising uneven ball strike and allowing greater ball control, accuracy and swerve.

Revolutionary V-Twin lacing system maximizes strike zone and optimizes fit allowing the true fit of a traditional football boot, without compromising the contact zone for ball strike.

Improved Shotshield technology on front of foot provides cleaner ball contact and superior control to allow the athletes to place the ball more accurately. The technology continues to utilise the precision ring technology used in its predecessor, providing increased accuracy through refined placement and design.

Teijin synthetic leather and engineered mesh work together to help protect the foot and maintain a constant temperature environment throughout a full 90 minutes.

Water resistant eVENT membrane enhances breathability and keeps the foot dry.

New high density outsole component supports and stabilises the planted foot when striking the ball.

Individually engineered hybrid studs are positioned for optimal traction and comfort, distributing pressure evenly across the foot.

An engineered sockliner provides improved arch and heel support whilst it’s unique anatomical design leverages multiple material densities to help distribute pressure and provide a tailored fit and feel from heel to toe.

Improved external heel counter cup provides added stability and works in combination with a molded foam package to create a superior feet and heel lockdown.

ARSHAVIN AND SUPERFLY DENY LIVERPOOL

Andrey Arshavin dealt a serious blow to Liverpool’s title aspirations as he bagged all four of Arsenal’s goals in an incredible eight goal thriller at Anfield.

The Russian’s statistics were truly amazing. Four attempts on goals, all four on target and all four whizzing past Pepe Reina at a high rate of knots.

Arshavin’s success will go some way to rebuilding the reputation of the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly which have still to be re-released after Nike delayed general sale due to ripping problems.

As it happens, Arshavin was a peripheral figure in the first half but that didn’t stop him giving the Gunners the lead 9 minutes before the break.

Football - Liverpool v Arsenal Barclays Premier League

Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun (both Nike) then scored twice in quick time to give Liverpool the lead after the interval only for Arshavin to regain the advantage for the visitors with 2 goals in 3 minutes. Following Alvaro Arbeloa’s hesitation he flashed a finish past Reina and then scored from close range after Fabio Aurelio’s poor clearance.

Torres levelled it up at 3 – 3 with a sweetly taken goal from the edge of the area before Arshavin popped up again to lash a left foot drive past the static Liverpool goalkeeper. Liverpool though claimed a richly deserved point when Benayoun scored his second in stoppage time.

The draw put Liverpool back on top of the Premier League, but in truth, the post match talk was all about Arshavin. A great night for the Russian. A great night for Nike with 8 goals out of 8.

OH KAY ON…THAT GAME, PFA AWARDS, GIVEN, MCCARTHY AND HARFORD

Andy Kay oh kay imageChelsea v Liverpool

So much for the all English Champions League quarter final being a tight affair. What a game. What entertainment. What belief from Liverpool to race in to a 2 – 0 lead on the night and what bravery from Hiddink to replace Salomon Kalou with Nicolas Anelka after just 35 minutes. I’d have loved to hear his half time team talk as well. Talk about a coach earning his money. It seems churlish to raise questions after 90 minutes if brilliant entertainment but from a Liverpool perspective, where was Torres and what has happened to Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech? Flappy or what? Thank goodness that John Terry will be back for the Blues for the meeting with Barcelona.

PFA means FA

The nominations are in and we now know that 5 of the 6 finalists in the running for the PFA award are Manchester United players with the other coming from Liverpool. If you hadn’t heard, United are represented by Ryan Giggs, Nemanja Vidic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand and Edwin van der Sar with Steven Gerrard the one from Merseyside. The trouble with the list is that it’s all a bit previous. Nominations have to be in by mid March which means most votes were counted in February. Back then, for example, Vidic was superb but he was subsequently destroyed by Fernando Torres at Old Trafford. Similarly, van der Sar didn’t concede a goal for about 8 years but has since let in 11 in 5 games. And what if Frank Lampard or John Terry should lead Chelsea to Champions League glory? Shouldn’t the player of the year actually be exactly that – the player of the entire season?

Patience isn’t a given, Shay

The Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given has appealed for the club’s supporters to show patience as they wait for some better results to come. The influx of money from overseas certainly raised expectations at Eastlands but so far, the season has been generally disappointing. Given said “People automatically feel we are a top-six team because we are one of the richest clubs in the world. In years to come I think this will be a great club to be involved with. But Rome was not built in a day.” As the excellent Daily Bung points out in the Daily Telegraph, Rome may not have sprung up over night but Given should remember that many parts of downtown Abu Dhabi did!

Up and down

The most redundant newspaper headline of the week centered on the Wolves manager as were informed that Mick McCarthy was ‘not getting carried away’. The former Republic of Ireland boss has guided Wanderers to within one win of the Premier League but is staying ‘grounded’. To borrow a phrase from Monty Python, I imagine that a man such as McCarthy would stay grounded if even if you put 50,000 volts through him. Going the other way are Luton Town who have lost their Football League status. As their manager Mick Harford said this week, this is not the fault of the current staff, but of those who have gone before. If Luton can show the kind of spirit that won them the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in a superb final against Scunthorpe, it surely won’t be too long before the Hatters are back in League Two.

CHELSEA V LIVERPOOL, FOOTBALL BOOTS SHOWDOWN

Four years ago, Rafael Benitez sent out his Liverpool team for the second half of the Champions League final against AC Milan trailing by 3 goals to nil.

Whatever the Spaniard said at the break had the desired effect as the Reds turned round that deficit and won the final on penalties. Tonight, in London, they’ll need a similar speech from Benitez as they attempt to overturn Chelsea’s 3 – 1 lead in the Champions League, quarter final 2nd leg at Stamford Bridge.

As well as being a huge match for both teams, it’s a massive occasion for the two big boot brands with some classic match up’s. Here’s our pick of the top 3.

Frank Lampard v Steven Gerrard

This is an Adidas only affair with Lampard in the adiPure II and Gerrard, presuming he’s fit enough to play, in the Predator Powerswerve. This is the 9th Champions league meeting between the two sides and both Lampard and Gerrard have played in all 9 games. Gerrard needs two goals to equal Manchester United’s Paul Scholes as the top Champions League English scorer with 21 goals.

Ricardo Carvalho v Fernando Torres

An Iberian meeting of the highest quality as Carvalho comes in to the side with John Terry suspended with the job of keeping Torres quiet. In addition to being defender v attacker, Portugal v Spain, it’s also Adidas v Nike with Carvalho in the Predator Powerswerve’s and Torres in the K leather Total 90 Laser II.

Jamie Carragher v Didier Drogba

Drogba is on a great run of late with 6 goals in his last 8 games and if he adds to that tally tonight, it’ll be all over for Carragher’s Liverpool. As with the Carvalho v Torres encounter, this is another clash of the football boot heavyweights with the black and white Predator’s of the Liverpool defender up against the lightning speed of Drogba’s Nike Mercural Vapor Superfly.

In addition to our top 3 showdowns, keep an eye out for the blue sapphire, black and white Total 90 Laser II’s of Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, who scored twice in the first leg, and Javier Mascherano of Liverpool who is back from suspension.

FOOTY BOOTS WEEKEND STAR - FERNANDO TORRES

With Manchester United moving further clear of the chasing pack on Saturday following their 1 – 0 win over Everton (Cristiano Ronaldo slotting home the winning penalty in his Citron Mercurial Vapor IV’s) it was always likely that whoever settled the heavyweight clash between Liverpool and Chelsea on Sunday would be a strong contender for this week’s Footy Boots accolade.

fernando torres t90 laser II

And so it’s proved with Liverpool striker Fernando Torres getting the nod after his late double strike in the white, black and sapphire colourway of the Nike Total 90 Laser II, gave the Merseyside team a 2 – 0 win over their title rivals.

total 90 laser ii torres

It’s the second time that Torres has taken the title this season, the first occasion came after another 2 goal performance in the derby game at Everton back in September last year.

This time round, the Spanish international left it late to secure the win – his first, a classic near post header, came on 89 minutes and a much simpler second arrived in the 4th minute of time added on.

The victory moved Liverpool to within 2 points of United at the top of the Premier League and the significance of the win wasn’t lost on Torres who said afterwards:

quote MOTD We knew that this was a massive game. Every player knew that. From the beginning until the very end, we worked really hard with intensity and determination. We are very happy with the 2-0 scoreline.

KTFTLIIWe know that games in England, more than any other league, go for 90 minutes and you can score in any minute and you have to keep going until the end.

It is a long race. We know that Manchester United are top of the table but we are going to fight with them until the end.

It has brought back some belief and confidence. These were my first two goals since coming back from injury. I have scored at home for the first time this season and to do that against Chelsea was fantastic.

RONALDO IS PFA FAVOURITE

Cristiano RonaldoLast year’s winner Cristiano Ronaldo is the strong favourite to win the PFA players player of the year after the nominations were announced today.

The 23 year old Manchester United star has scored 37 goals this season and has been nominated alongside the Arsenal duo of Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor. Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard and striker Fernando Torres along with Portsmouth’s David James complete the list.

Ronaldo, Fabregas and Torres are also in the running to be the PFA young player of the year - a title which Ronaldo also walked away with last season.

They are joined by the Aston Villa pair Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young and Manchester City’s England defender Micah Richards.

How well have the Premiership title chasers spent?

With the transfer window remaining in full swing, clubs still trying to get in their last minute buys before the season begins on Saturday, Footy-Boots.com takes a look at the summer investments of the Premiership’s ‘top 5′ clubs.

Owen_Hargreaves_football_bootsOwen Hargreaves (Man Utd) has shipped his Adidas +Predator Absolute boots from Munich to Manchester (£17 million) to join fellow new boys Nani (Nike Mercurial Vapor III) and Anderson (Adidas +Predator Absolute) at Old Trafford. He will be hoping to create a solid midfield partnership in the Manchester United engine room with fellow England international Michael Carrick (Puma V-Konstrukt II). Are Hargreaves and Carrick too alike? Will they be able to play alongside each other?

florent_maluoda_football_bootsFlorent Malouda (Chelsea - Nike Total 90 Laser). The Fulham Road club fought off competition from Liverpool to sign up pacy winger and France’s footballer of the year, Florent Malouda. Malouda has already shown his huge talent, holding off England international Rio Ferdinand, to notch against Manchester United in the Community Shield. He will be hoping that his Nike T90 Laser’s can help supply the ammunition to the blues striker force Didier Drogba (Nike Mercurial Vapor III Cactus), Andrei Shevchenko (Reebok Sprintfit), and fellow Chelsea new boy, Claudio Pizarro (Adidas +Predator Absolute), and reclaim the Premiership title from their north west rivals. Malouda looks a quality signing, and is sure too be a fine replacement should Arjen Robben (Adidas +F50 Tunit 2) leave the club.

fernando_torres_football_bootsFernando Torres (Liverpool - Nike Total 90 Laser). ‘El Nino’ (the Kid) progressed through Atletico Madrid’s youth system and became one of Europe’s most sought after strikers following an impressive showing in the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Not renowned for his prolific goal scoring, he will be hoping fellow new boy Ryan Babel (Nike Mercurial Vapor III) can create the chances for him to find the net with his Nike T90 Laser’s; thus finally replacing Michael Owen (Umbro X Boot III) as Liverpool’s twenty goal a season striker.

FB Rating 3.8/5

eduardo_da_silva_football_bootsEduardo da Silva (Arsenal - Nike Mercurial Vapor III). Brazilian born Croatia striker Da Silva knows that he and fellow attackers Robin Van Persie (Adidas +Predator Absolute) and Emmanuel Adebayor (Adidas +F50 Tunit 2) have a difficult task in replacing the prolific Thierry Henry (Reebok Sprintfit). The former Dinamo Zagreb man has already been described as a ‘great asset’ by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, and began to repay his faith by scoring on his Arsenal debut against Lazio in the recent Amsterdam tournament. Only time will tell if he can replace Henry.

FB Rating 3.7/5

gareth_bale_football_bootsGareth Bale (Spurs). Exciting 18 year old Welsh international and Adidas +F50 Tunit 2 wearer Gareth Bale has swapped the south coast for London joining Spurs crop of youthful team for an upfront payment of £5 million, which could raise to £10 million on appearances. Bale, who is renowned for his precise free kicks, will be hoping to pick out fellow new boy, Darren Bent, and his Nike Mercurial Vapor III’s. Bale, at 18, looks to have an extremely bright future ahead of him.

Do you think the Premiership’s top 5 have spent wisely? Who else would you like to see your team bring in before the transfer window closes at the end of the month?

Nike T90 Laser Football Boots Team Images and Videos

In the battle for the new season football boots, Nike have put together their Team T90 of players to champion their latest football boots - the Nike Total 90 Laser.

Team T90

At the head of the team is Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, who has taken over the legendary number 10 football shirt, last worn by Ruud van Nistelrooy, and having been worn in the past by greats such as Bobby Charlton, Mark Hughes and Denis Law. Rooney had previously worn the number eight shirt, which is now expected to be taken by new signing Owen Hargreaves. Curly-topped Hargreaves himself could be a T90 Laser team member, as he has reportedly signed for Nike from Adidas, but has yet to be seen in the swoosh football boots.

Nike are backing up their team by releasing videos of the players talking about the new football boots, and how great they are. The team line up features Puyol, Gattuso, Diego, Cannavaro, Frings, Rooney, Essien, Marquez, Torres and Malouda. As the football boot is meant to be a warning to the opposition, Nike clearly are so confident in their team that they have omitted to include a goal-keeper!
