Manchester United top off a great week by confirming new deals for three of their players, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wes Brown.

Alex Ferguson is delighted that three key members of his squad have signed long term deals with the club.

Although the length of the deals has not yet been disclosed, it is thought that Ferdinand’s extension lasts until 2013.

Rio Ferdinand

Ferdinand joined United from Leeds United back in 2002 for a figure of £30 million. His recent form has elevated him to senior status at the club and it has also enabled him to wear the England armband under new head coach Fabio Capello.

Michael Carrick

Carrick made his way to Manchester from Tottenham in 2006. He has made steady progress at United, but has recently figured as a regular central midfielder in the back end of this season.

Wes Brown

Brown is a product of the Manchester United youth academy, making his début back in May 1998. His contract was due for renewal at the end of this season, which had a number of clubs on alert to sign him.

Alex Ferguson:

They have agreed new deals, it continues our policy of lengthening contracts at the right time.

I’m not sure the length of the contracts, but David Gill (United’s chief executive) phoned me this morning to tell me that they have agreed the contracts. It’s obviously very good news for the club.

There’s no other club for Wes Brown. He’s a Manchester United player. We were always quietly confident he would sign.
