England crestWith Rio Ferdinand injured, Joleon Lescott, Wes Brown or Matthew Upson will be expecting a call to partner John Terry in defence as England get their World Cup qualifying campaign underway against Andorra in Barcelona.

In what is Fabio Capello’s first competitive game as manager, both Frank Lampard and Joe Cole are also expected to be fit while some newspaper reports suggest that Arsenal youngster Theo Walcott will start, leaving David Beckham fresh to face Croatia in 4 days time.

With England’s midfield missing the likes of Steven Gerrard, Michael Carrick and Owen Hargreaves, Fulham’s Jimmy Bullard is in line for a debut though Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry remains the favourite to start along side Lampard.

Andorra got their qualifying campaign off to a poor start, losing 3 – 0 away to Kazakhstan but England will be wary of the Group 6 minnows nonetheless.

The last time they played Andorra at the Olympic Stadium, in March last year, the first half ended goalless which resulted in then boss Steve McClaren receiving a torrent of verbal abuse from the travelling supporters. England went on to win the tie 3 – 0.
